Application trajectory of SYMAPRO - FAQs
9. How was SYMAPRO developed?
SYMAPRO was originally developed by Profesor Pritchard, University of Texas, in the eighties, with the name of PROMES. As conceptual background, PROMES is based on motivation theory by Naylor, Pritchard and Ilgen (1980). In this theory, motivation is maximized when people see a clear connection between their efforts and results. The efforts of the person are more clearly targeted resulting in greater productivity; in addition, stress and wasted effort are reduced.
Based on this theory, the programme developed a formal method for measuring productivity and make feedback to people.
In the nineties, it spread to industrialized countries and by 2004 it was being applied in more than eleven countries.
In 1995 this System was known in Mexico thanks to an agreement with the University of Tilburg (Netherlands) and the ILO Office in Mexico. It was adapted and applied on a trial basis in a company of the sugar sector. It was spread in this sector and by 2005 there were 17 companies in the industry that were applying it.
At the same time, it spread to Dominican Republic, where INFOTEP included it within its programme of enterprise advisory services. Similarly it extended to Cuba, Chile and El Salvador in Central America.
